General Information – Deep Sea Diver
Divers use professional diving skills to carry out a variety of underwater activities including underwater inspection, testing, repair maintenance or search work. Some divers specialise in particular techniques such as photography or welding. They also do salvage work and may be involved with rescue services. The work can be hard, demanding and sometimes dangerous.
Use nets, fishing rods, traps, or other equipment to catch and gather fish or other aquatic animals from rivers, lakes, or oceans, for human consumption or other uses. May haul game onto ship.
Those who train as divers usually have other skills, for example, in engineering or construction, so most are over 21. Divers must be in excellent physical condition, be able to pass a medical examination (annually renewable) and be confident working under water.
